Web Design Explained. What's Important
So what is important in building a great website?
Firstly you need a clear idea of why you have a website (or why you want one). It seems like a silly question when everyone in the media (and all us web site builders) are telling you that you must have a website. Like any form of marketing you need to be very clear about your reasons.
- Who is your targeted audience?
- What needs do they have?
- How can you service some or all of their needs on a website?
- What sort of information will make your site more useful to them than others?
These are just some of the questions that you need to be reviewing before then understanding what the site will work like, and what it will offer as far as functionality goes.
Of course one of the absolute musts to consider is how will you get people to the site?
- Search Engine Optimisation?
- Off-line promotions and advertising?
- Search Marketing?
- Other methods...
So assuming you have a fair dinkum great site, have figured out how to get people to you, and the site is working, does it stop there?
No! Many businesses drop the ball as soon as the inquiry button is pressed or the phone is rung, because they haven't thought about how the specific needs of a web customer are different to their traditional customers.
Think they are all the same? Wrong. They can be very similar but in many ways the person who has been primed by your website could be a much hotter prospect than a browser who passes through your store.
Above are a raft of items to think about and in reality we haven't even touched the surface really.
