Web design is not all about flashy graphics!. Graphic vs Web Design
What's the differences between web design and graphic (print) design?
There are many great graphic designers out there who produce great print design, but fail to produce great web design because they don’t understand the differences between web design and graphic design.
Ireckon understands that functionality, usability and speed of delivery are paramount to great electronic product designs and web site designs. Factors such as Search Engines, browser environments, scripting language conflicts all are as important as paper and ink types are off line. So for online design you need to make sure your design team 'get it' and work in the online medium all day!
Online design for websites requires the same focus on the end result that any design should have. Ireckon we approach each of our projects with the end user in mind, delivering designs that provide practical solutions.
Electronic design is about producing designs that compliments the content, not distracts from it, and drives visitors through the web site or multimedia application, not drives them away. It is about providing information to visitors in a simple way, not making them sit through designs that detract from the information.
It’s about reaching YOUR target audience, not about designing something your designer wants to use in their portfolio.
Of course web design still involves all the key principles of any graphic design:
- Type- how your words look on the page
- Images – make sure you use images that support your message or brand, and also involves the use of text as a graphic element
- Composition – how your images and type come together into a coherent and effective whole.
However like an exceptional brochure designer who understands what product and method of print to use and the issues and considerations they need to be aware of, online we make sure our designs are suitable for their medium – browsers, targeted audience etc.
For 10+ years we have worked with business brands and their offline design teams to ensure brand integrity is maintained and extended. Before Agencies came up with the term 'Digital Division' or 'New media' Ireckon and other web studios were already doing it and gaining valuable real experience.
The term graphic design covers all forms of design in any medium, make sure the design team you use has graphic design skills for the online mediums you choose.
