Content matters!

Don't listen to the so called home experts who will tell you no one will read it anyway. Firstly it is already well proven by years of experiences that site visitors do read content, they just read it differently to other mediums. Stop and think about it. If you are reading this you are 'reading the content'.

Web pages tend to be scanned more than read in detail, until contextually relevant content is found (or not). It is why web pages tend to have more bolded words and bullet points. They are simply easier to read / scan on screen.

Now you are scanning, what you find has to matter, to what YOU want. Or what your site visitor wants. Not what you think they want. Content matters to search engines too, especially for sustainable long term results.

Whether it is content that never changes or content you change regularly like blog posts and / or news stories etc. the content and how it is written matters very much!

Make sure you a) get really good advice about how your web content will work and / or b) get help to write it.

You can update and add new content as part of a redesign of your site, or just look to update content on a regular basis.

A few reasons when you should look to update your website content:

  • You have added new products or expanded your services and want to display these on your site

So how do you go about updating content on your website? There are a few options available to website owners wanting to provide relevant up-to-date content:

If you are looking to update the content yourself, you can do it using programmes such as Macromedia Contribute, or by using a content management system. A content management system can be easily incorporated into your existing website and will allow you to make changes as and when you like without the need for any technical skills.
